For me factions is a love hate relationship.

I love the two new classes and the huge multi level city, the scenery was great too esp the jade sea.

The way the storyline is implemented stinks, arenanet set out to boost pvp and stop running.
They succeeded "however"
It should be possible to choose one faction "or none maybe" and still finish the game, Im a hero what do I care about their petty squabbles.

But I have to "eventually" join both factions to reach all the cities and gain access to some elite skills.
This is fine in some games but in gw it just leaves you bemused as you jump back and forward in the storyline.

ie
I joined the Luxon faction we won the enemy is defeated some friends are dead and everyone loves each other.

Ok now let me join the Kurzics and start again then enemy is alive "again" so are some characters "again".
Different missions in different areas leading to the same final fight if I want it to, but it was a bad idea.
Its slanted more towards pvp than pve imho

Its still worth playing and the weaknesses in the storyline only show if you want to explore everywhere.

There is a general rule "if it isn't broken don't fix it" GW has been fixed 3 times.
The changes have been good and bad and hopefully gw2 will be the better for it.

Just one point I want to make; the "grind for faction" really isn't bad at all; you do a couple missions for one of the sides (Kurzick or Luxon), and it's over and done with. You can get a chain of missions that are worth 750 faction points each, and they do take you around to many of the towns and outposts for that side. If you also pay for the blessing, so every kill gets you 5 faction, (not to count the 100+ for any named bosses), it's over quickly.

Personally, while the city areas are a little daunting at first, and the blocked doors prevents running to most areas, if you play a bit you learn how to get around pretty effectively. Also, factions does have some excellent skills, and many of its armor and weapon skins are very well done.

Frankly, I kind of like Factions the most; it has a faster pace to keep you interested, and although the main storyline is short, you can still go back and do the missions for the side you didn't do the first time. I also find the ritualist to be one of the more interesting professions GW has to offer.

Factions and Nightfall are definitely the ends of the GW spectrum. If you didn't like Nightfall, odds are you'll like Factions - or that GW simply isn't for you at all.

IMO, anyway.

With regards to grind in Factions, it is not so bad for your first character. If you do every single non-repeatable quest available to you in that region you will get enough factions to proceed. You do not need to grind on monsters and repeatable quests to get the 10k.

The problem, of course, comes with your other characters. For most of the other campaigns, you can skip non-primary quests, but here, you have no choice but to do them. Because it is account-wide, you can have all your characters complete that quest at the same time.

I do not hate the city, but I wished it had more variety. Some middle-class suburbs would be nice. What ruins the whole Factions experience is the horrible cut-scenes.

As a few have stated people tend to over-exadurate the gaining 10k faction and refer to it as a horrible grind. My guess is these are the players who just don't like quests as the 10k can be acheived by completing quests in each region as well as a variety of other ways.

If you like challenge style missions you can do those
If you like relaxed PvP there is AB/FA/not so much jade quarry.

Also with the addition of faction gain in bounties given by the priests at the shrines its gained much faster than the levels you require in nightfall to progress.

Factions is worth the money for the scenery alone .Every area is different and of great detail, even kaineng area if you bother to look around (i love all the extras like sleeping cats ). Add in the two professions, The Ritualist being one of the best professions for PvE, the great skills (see: Dragon Slash) the wanderful music and the exclusive events, all of which make factions a great campaign.

I think hthe main reason people criticise factions so much is simply because it wasn't prophecies. Everyone who played and loved the first installment where expecting that same feeling all over again which they can't get unless they play a totally new game from the start.

I've known people start with factions then play the other campaigns and say they where not as good so it does work both ways.
